NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION OF LOVE

NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION OF LOVE

Today at church a white haired man in his late 70’s wheeled a woman of the same age in a wheel chair to the area in front of the pew where I was seated. He had on thick rimmed  eye glasses that went out of style a long time ago. He had an old Love fashioned pair of suspenders holding up his somewhat baggy pants that were already firmly secured by a belt. I was distracted by his actions towards his wife in the wheel chair during the service. After arriving, he adjusted her clothing and the chair and whispered to her something that caused her to nod approval. He would frequently adjust her clothing, ask her if everything was OK and hold her hand whenever he could. I could see him looking at her during the service with a kindly face and expression of obvious love. I imagined a long term marriage during which her health deteriorated and he assumed care taking responsibility out of pure love. I am confident that he did not see any of this as a burden either. I’m not sure I could fully recount the sermon, but the truth is I got more inspiration out of seeing them  then I did the service today.

  1. Paul,

This was a very touching story. It really puts things into perspective. Too many times we just say we love someone. When in fact, 93% of how we communicate is not even done with words.
