ANITA LUVERA MAYER – WEAVER AND TEXTILE ARTIST

My sister, Anita Luvera Mayer, of Anacortes, Washington is a talented weaver and textile artist. She has been weaving and working with textiles for over a quarter of a century. She has traveled throughout the Mayer_vest_web United States and Canada as well as around the world giving lectures and conducting workshops. She has published numerous books about her work as well as publishing numerous articles on her work.Two of the most recent books are Clothing From the Hands That Weave and the book Clothing: Felted to Wear. She has received awards for her work as well as had numerous exhibits nationally and internationally. Her work has been included in national and international shows as well as one-woman retrospectives. Her artistic work includes lectures and workshops on clothing, women’s issues and creativity.

Her work will be presented in La Conner at the La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum from May 14th through July 13th 2008. On Saturday June 21st at 1:00 pm she will discuss her exhibit "Creative clothing: One Woman’s Journey."  I’m very proud of her.
