30 YEARS TOGETHER TODAY

30 YEARS TOGETHER TODAY

Today February 27, 2011 is the 30th year Lita Theresa Barnett and I have been married. The truth is that  it should be considered 60 years since we are both attorneys who have worked together in the same office for more then thirty years. It's been a 24 hour a day relationship that has survived and improved over all these years. I would not have had it any other way. There are many quotes, song lyrics and poems I might repeat here, but this captures my feeling as much as any of them:

Walk Slowly

If you should go before me, dear, walk slowly
Down the ways of death, well-worn and wide,            Europe 2009 (121 of 165)
For I would want to overtake you quickly
And seek the joumey's ending by your side.

I would be so forlorn not to descry you
Down some shining highroad when I came,
Walk slowly, dear, and often look behind you
And pause to hear if someone calls your name.

  1. Congratulations on your 30th (60th) Anniversary! That is quite an accomplishment in today’s world of the disposable spouse.
Adelaide Loves’ poignant poem is very moving. Thanks for sharing it.
I’m celebrating this weekend too. Yesterday was my Medicare birthday. I’m not sure “celebrating” is the right word but there no verb for “grateful” and being “relieved” at turning 65 doesn’t seem quite accurate either. 🙂
