I’VE CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT PRESIDENT BIDEN STAYING IN THE RACE

I view this election as a critical decision about what kind of a government we will have after the election is over. My view is that this election issue is very simple: “anybody but Trump.” It is especially true since the U.S. Supreme Court made a political decision to give the president of the United States total immunity while in office for their actions. The idea of Donald Trump as president with total immunity for his actions endangers our democratic and constitutional form of government. The Supreme Court gave him what he always insisted was true. According to Trump: ” I have an Article II, where I have the right to do whatever I want as president.” The Supreme Court has made that claim true and the contemplation of how Trump, as president, would exercise his arbitrary power to do whatever he wants is frightening.

I had anticipated that President Biden would make a strong renewed impression after his harmful debate performance. I believed, compared to other Democratic potential candidates, he  had the best chance of defeating Trump. Unfortunately, the undeniable facts are otherwise. I have  changed my mind about President Biden having the best chance of defeating Donald Trump. Instead of making a new and strong leadership impression post debate, his campaign speeches interviews and public viewing have shown a deteriorating ability to lead the country or defeat Trump. Perceptions are more important than political words. Biden looks very frail. His voice is very soft. It’s not robust. The situation is not getting better.  It’s getting worse. The ABC’s George Stephanopoulos interview was intended to reassure voters of Biden’s ability to serve. That did not happen and served to foster even more concern about his ability to be elected. Since then Biden’s frail physical appearance, his habit of speaking  so softly that it is difficult to make out his words even with a microphone and his tendency to stop mid-sentence and trail off during speeches are visible signs of his deteriorating abilities. Now that he has Covid, these impressions are even worse.

The reality is that  it’s not just the White House at stake, but control of the Senate and House. All of these seats are going to be very closely contested. Only a handful of seats control both houses. Every vote counts and the top of the ticket of the presidental race influences the election of the legislature. I no longer believe Biden is still the best candidate to beat Trump, but the choices for a replacement who has the ability to win are limited. Worse, time is running out. The democrats plus the media continue to undermine Biden’s chances by insisting he is unfit to serve and pointing out his physical as well as  mental failures.  The possible choices are less than perfect. The most logical choice is Vice President Kamala Harris even though she has her own voter issues. Others might include prominent Democratic Senators such as  Cory Booker, or Amy Klobuchar, but they lack the high profile a presidential candidate needs.  Certainly governor  Gavin Newsom of California has a national profile that would be helpful, but he has his own issues involving his  politics in California. The vice president is the most logical choice, but if it is going to happen, it has to be now.

My feeling is that Biden is not going to suddenly make a dramatic new strong impression, especially since he has Covid. The perception of him from the debate has continued to haunt him to present time.  The media is not going to stop their criticism and his Democratic critics are not going  unite behind him. The overall situation will continue to deteriorate resulting in  Trump being elected unless there is a new candidate . It’s time to select a new candidate as the Democratic choice and for President Biden to step down as soon as possible. The consequences of not acting quickly and correctly has consequences for our country that are difficult to contemplate.

By the way, that bandage on Trump’s ear was misplaced. His rambling 1.5 hour “accepance speech” filled with narcisstic and bogus claims clearly indcates the bandage belonged not on his ear, but on his mouth.
