The Seattle PI today reports that on Tuesday President Bush announced he was lifting a ban on oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s Bristol Bay. His action now allows the Interior Department to allow drilling on some 5.6 million acres as part of a five year leasing plan. Bristol Bay leases would be available in 2010 And 2012. The National Law Journal reports (12/4/06) that the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency, a case involving global warming. The EPA declined to act under the Clean Air Act, claiming it had no authority to regulate carbon dioxide emissions.
