Rain and Lots of It In Phuket

Rain and Lots of It In Phuket

You know what it looks like when you tip a full pail full of water and let it pour out? Well, that’s what yesterday was like. Starting at about 10:00 am a total torrential monsoon downpour began under a solid Gray cloud like a fog bank and it never stopped or let up until evening. Water stacking up in rising puddles on the pavement, filling the swimming pool to over flowing and totally relentless. I got a lot of work…

News From Phuket Thailand

News From Phuket Thailand

I am sitting in a room Amanpuri Resort at Phuket looking out at totally Grey skies and a torrential downpour of rain. We arrived here yesterday afternoon, following a two hour flight from Hong Kong and a forty minute ride from the airport. When we arrived at the new Hong Kong international airport I thought there had been a bomb scare. There were no people in sight at the terminal we got off at. Inside there were very few people….

Travel Report from Hong Kong

Travel Report from Hong Kong

Greetings from Hong Kong where the sun is shinning and it is about 80 degrees today. We flew from San Francisco on Tuesday about noon and arrived at our hotel here Wednesday night about 7:30. The lost time was due to a 15 hour long non stop flight and a time change. As I write this is Thursday about 2:45, but it is still Wednesday in Seattle about 11:45 pm at night. So, there is a substantial time difference. The…

Hong Kong, Thailand and Phuket

Hong Kong, Thailand and Phuket

My wife, Lita, and I leave Monday on a two week trip. We fly first to San Francisco and after spending the night take a late flight to Hong Kong. After a couple of days there, we fly to Bangkok, Thailand for a night. Then to Phuket to hopefully get some sun on the beach. All of this because I bid for the trip at a charity auction when, after a few drinks, it seemed like a great idea. Neither…

Boston & New York Travel Report

Boston & New York Travel Report

I’m back from Boston by way of New York after attending a meeting for the Inner Circle of Advocates, a national plaintiff lawyer’s professional organization. Unfortunately, I saw little of Boston because I arrived late Saturday and had meetings all day Sunday and Monday. I then left early on Tuesday to meet my wife Lita in New York. We spent Tuesday night in New York where we attended the musical Wicked and left early Wednesday for Seattle. When we left…

Boston Massachusetts

Boston Massachusetts

I leave for Boston early Saturday for a meeting of a professional law group I belong to, the Inner Circle of Advocates. So, it seems appropriate to share some information about the city and state. The city of Boston is also known as "Beantown" or "The Hub." It’s population is nearly 600,000 people. It is the largest city in Massachusetts and New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut), and the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts….

Final Travel Report

Final Travel Report

Final Report of our travels. We disembarked the ship at a port outside of Rome and were driven to the Galleria Borghese in Rome. If you have never visited this museum you should put it on your list of things to do before you die. It was a Borghese family villa, now a museum that requires a reservation well in advance to enter as they limited the number of people and limit how long one can stay inside to two…

Travel Report from Sorrento, Italy

Travel Report from Sorrento, Italy

Friday May 18, 2007. We are on anchor off the town of Sorrento. We are close to the shore, but the wind has picked up and there are white caps that slightly roll the ship. Last night was the roughest of the trip. Not bad enough to make you sea sick, but enough to keep you from sleeping well. We had arranged a driver and car so when we got off the ship at 9:00 am. John Luca was waiting….

Travel Report from Lipara Italy

Travel Report from Lipara Italy

May 17, 2007. We are anchored off of this small island located close to the island of Sicily. There is no other cruise ship here. This island is close enough that there is a regular hydrofoil passenger ferry connections  from Scicily to here. The weather has taken a turn for the worse. Overcast and some rain, but it looks more threatening this afternoon. We didn’t have to stay up late for a show since there was a 7:00 one last…

Travel Report from Catania Italy

Travel Report from Catania Italy

Wednesday May 16th. Today as I sit in the ship’s computer room looking out the window I see cargo containers stacked up and cement elevator storage containers with large industrial cranes. This is not a pretty harbor and the city looks very industrial. There are some 360,000 people here with a high population density. This place and the surrounding area has been destroyed by earthquakes over the centuries. In fact, this city has been buried in lava at least seven…
