“Ethnosectarian” and Bush Administration Doublespeak

I’ve written before about this administration’s dishonest use of doublespeak in order to give information in a false manner.(See posts of 11/29/06 & 1/13/07) Their use of political framing, with the advice of Karl Doublespeak Rove and Frank Luntz, is best illustrated by the infamous "Mission Accomplished" banner following our invasion of Iraq. Now General Petraeus has coined the word "ethnosectarian" instead of "civil war"to put the reality of civil war deaths in Iraq in a false light.

The reality is outlined in Lawrence Korb’s blog where he points out that in spite of Petraeus and Bush claims, overall civilian death claims in Iraq are on the increase with May being the deadliest month with over 1900 civilian deaths. This involved Shi’a on Shi’a violence, Sunni on Sunni violence, car bombings and people being shot in the streets

Korb points out that since the "surge" began the number of displaced people in Iraq has doubled to 1.1 million with 200,000 in Baghdad alone. Since the "surge" more then 800 American servicemen have died. He also says that 70% of Iraqi’s lack adequate water supplies, 30% of the children are malnourished and electrical supply is at a minimum resulting in 2.4 million people leaving Iraq and living as refuges outside the country. Worse, the Iraqi national police are so ineffective that military advisors recommend they be disbanded.

This is the reality that doublespeak can’t conceal and that tell the real facts that should be reported by the general and the Bush administration to the American people instead of sugar coated double talk.
