HUFFINGTON’S BLOG ABOUT GUTLESS DEMOCRATS

HUFFINGTON’S BLOG ABOUT GUTLESS DEMOCRATS

I admit to being a big fan of Arianna Huffington’s political views. She has a way of expressing her views that are clear and simple. Her ability to find the right metaphor is a big part of why I like to read what she writes. Her blog has a piece about the Democratic’s caving in to the Republicans on key issues. As she quotes from the Washington Post, "mostly quiet acquiescence, if not outright support" of Republican positions. Nancy Pelosi…

THE IRAQ COSTS GO UP & THE DOLLAR GOES DOWN

THE IRAQ COSTS GO UP & THE DOLLAR GOES DOWN

The Sunday newspaper published a letter to the editor which was a brief, but accurate, summary of why our dollar growing weaker. The writer pointed out that our national debt has doubled in the last seven years. He writes that the federal reserve prints more dollars to cover the United States’ deficit spending and thus devalues the dollar through inflation. He notes that the oil producing countries of the Persian Gulf are considering the abandonment of the dollar as their…

OLD WARRIORS OF THE PLAINTIFF BAR

OLD WARRIORS OF THE PLAINTIFF BAR

My friend, attorney Murry Kleist gave me this photo of the Board for the Washington State Trial Lawyer’s Association. I don’t know the date, but I suspect it was in the late 1960’s. I think I’ve identified everyone correctly. Starting in the back row from the left are: Edward Dawson, Spokane; Duane Lund, deceased;J. Peter Tonkoff, Yakima, deceased; Nelvin Bettis, deceased. Herb Freise, deceased; Aaron May, Tacoma, deceased. In the front row from the left are: Paul Luvera, Gig Harbor;…

REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR, DECEMBER 7, 1941 – THE START OF WORLD WAR II FOR AMERICA

REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR, DECEMBER 7, 1941 – THE START OF WORLD WAR II FOR AMERICA

It was on a Sunday December 7th some sixty years ago in 1941 that the plans of Isoroku Yamamoto were put into action. Yamamoto had studied at Harvard in 1919 and graduated in 1921. He had already graduated from Japan’s Imperial navy academy in 1904 at only 20 years old. In 1926 he returned to the United States for another two years as a Japanese naval attache in Washington. By 1930 he had become an admiral and one fully familiar…

NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION OF LOVE

NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION OF LOVE

Today at church a white haired man in his late 70’s wheeled a woman of the same age in a wheel chair to the area in front of the pew where I was seated. He had on thick rimmed  eye glasses that went out of style a long time ago. He had an old fashioned pair of suspenders holding up his somewhat baggy pants that were already firmly secured by a belt. I was distracted by his actions towards his…

THE FILM SCHOOL OF SEATTLE

THE FILM SCHOOL OF SEATTLE

PONCHO is an acronym for "Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations." This was the name given to the first ever charitable auction put on by a group of Seattle business, philanthropic and arts patrons in 1963. My wife Lita has been active in PONCHO for many years as a board member and supporter. At their last annual auction we purchased a Film School program. The Film School is located in   Seattle. The school was created in 2004…

RECENT READING REPORT

RECENT READING REPORT

I managed to get in some reading while working during our travels. Martin Howard has written a book We Know What You Want which manipulative means to influence choices people make.  Some of the things he reveals involve front groups or organizations which pretend to represent one agenda, but really have another. His example is that of Center for consumer Freedom (CCF) which claims it’s mission is to defend freedom of choice of consumers. In reality it is a front…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

The first permanent settlement of the Colony of Virginia had been established May 14, 1607 when a group of English settlers arrived in December of 1619. Their arrival was observed as a "day of thanksgiving" to God. Captain John Woodleaf held the service of thanksgiving. In 1621 it was decided to set aside a day of thanksgiving after the first harvest of that year. On October 3, 1789 president, George Washington proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national day of celebration. So,…

ALL HE NEWS FROM CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO

ALL HE NEWS FROM CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO

I’ve discovered the answer to why the helicopter has been around. It appeared again yesterday morning and is doing a promotional video shoot of some kind for the area. That’s why it flies over this resort about 200′ feet off the ground rattling the dishes and terrifying the guests. But, it only happens in the morning and for a short time. Nevertheless, it gives one pause to consider pilot error and engine failure. Yesterday there was a wedding on the…
