Joint Replacements & Football Great Dave Kopay
I have three artificial joints as a result of being a mediocre football player in high school and college. I carry around two total knee and one hip joint replacement. There are no airports in the world I can pass through security without setting off the alarm. That’s why I was impressed when I read in the Seattle PI that Dave Kopay, the former Husky football and pro football great, has had two hip joint replacements, and a knee and shoulder replacement all within the last five years. The difference is that while I was a grunt lineman at the University of Washington, Kopay was a star. He was a Rose Bowl Co-Captain who went on to play nine seasons for the San Francisco 49ers and other professional teams as well as in the prof bowl. He has always been an outspoken man who wrote The Dave Kopay Story and has recently donated a large sum to the University of Washington. He’s now 65 years old and I wish him and his joints a long healthy life.
