BEAM ME UP SCOTTY, I’M ON THE WRONG PLANET
When Captain Kirk wanted to be transported back to the Starship Enterprise he would command chief engineer Scotty to "Beam me up." The politics in Washington make me feel as if I am on the wrong planet. The political lunacy is like being in an alien world run by beings whose chief goal appears to be to eliminate all government involvement in society. They act like the anarchists of the 1920's whose objective was to eliminate government and create a society of survival of the fitness. The Republicans and president don't want government involved in their world, except to impose Christian beliefs on all of us, and if someone can't take care of themselves or are a burden, they believe we should toss them overboard. They believe it is look out only for yourself and the hell with everyone else.
And what a cast of characters running our country! "Pius" Paul Ryan, who speaks only to God for his guidance, hypocrite Mitch McConnell who lacks any moral compass about truth and Darth Vader Steve Bannon, who believes in a Christian apocalypse which he hopes is coming soon, lurking around in the shadows behind our leader. To top it off, our leader has a team of spokespersons who rank in the political hall of fame of political surrogate incompetents: Stephen Miller, a true cyborg – wind him up and he will recite whatever he has been programmed to say; Sean Spicer to whom truth is merely an illusion but persistent and annoying, together with the world class alternative truth teller Kellyanne Conway, whose delusions include an obsessive belief in the truth of everything our leader says or does irrespective of overwhelming evidence to the contrary
Then we have our leader, our own Mad Hatter, who is utterly unburdened by the constraints of truth or facts. Like Humpty Dumpty, for him words only mean "what I choose it to mean." All too frequently what he says is best described in the scene out of the dreadful 1995 movie Billy Madison when the school principal says: "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it." and Madison replies: "Okay, a simple 'wrong' would've done just fine." But, for our leader a simple "wrong" doesn't begin to describe the untruths which are offered as totally accurate claims or the political insanity of events happening daily in Washington. Obvious lies and falsehoods are offered as gospel truth and the disregard of the obligations owed to the voters and American public is scandalous.
Too late, voters have discovered the real impact of the Republican mantra "Repeal Obamacare" and began protesting to their congress representatives. But, fortunately, the Congressional ultra conservatives decided the proposed substitute bill repealing the ACA wasn't conservative enough for them. Ryan and fearless leader had to blink and not pull the trigger on the vote and put their tail between their legs whining about Democratic objections to their substitute bill. That doesn't mean that things will return to normal politics in Washington. It' only a temporary reprieve. Regarding their next step, as Dorthy Parker used to say when the phone or door bell rang "What fresh new hell is this?" We can abandon any remaining hope that once elected our leader would become presidential. Instead what we now have is a political Mad Hatter running a political insane asylum. My only hope is that the political incompetency will become so apparent voters will clean house. Otherwise, buckle up for a long, rough ride and beam me up to another planet.
