FINAL REPORT ON OUR TRIP TO FRANCE

FINAL REPORT ON OUR TRIP TO FRANCE

We’ve been home ten days from our trip to France and are over the worst of jet lag,  but still waking up at anywhere from three to five a.m. We flew British Air to London and London to Lyon, France. We had first class tickets, so the first leg was very comfortable with flat beds. Heathrow is a difficult airport because of all the walking that is involved and the need to ride buses to change terminals, but we survived…

This Thursday, May 14,  we leave at 7 o'clock at night from Seattle to London. Fortunately, however, thanks to upgrades, we have the privilege of flying first class on British. It makes the nine hour flight a lot more comfortable. After a layover at Heathrow Airport in London, we fly British at 4 o'clock in the afternoon to Lyon France arriving at about 6:30 PM. We are driven from the airport to the Villa Florentine in Lyon. The hotel is…

OUR SALMON FISHING TRIP TO SONORA ISLAND

OUR SALMON FISHING TRIP TO SONORA ISLAND

We just returned from a short salmon fishing trip to Sonora Island in British Columbia. We were at the Sonora Resort which is about 230 miles by air from Seattle.  On Tuesday we flew  on Kenmore at Lake Union in a float plane for less than three hours and landed on a bright, beautiful day at the resort. Sonora Island is within the Discovery Islands at the mouth of Bute Inlet, which is one of the deepest Inlets in North…

IMPRESSIONS WHILE TRAVELING

IMPRESSIONS WHILE TRAVELING

We are back from Europe, suffering from jet lag and not enough sleep. Here are some impressions I'm left with as a result of our trip. Let's start with really trivial things. At the end of the cruise we flew from Athens to Paris. In Paris we were driven to the Trianon Palace, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Versailles outside of Paris. There were black limos and people who looked like security around the outside of the hotel. Inside, a…

FOUR DAY REPORT

FOUR DAY REPORT

The ship is docked in Corsica on our fourth day of cruising on the Seabourn Sojourn. It is Friday May 16th about 3:30 PM.  We sailed on Tuesday afternoon from Barcelona Spain to closeby Palomas Spain on our first day. From there we went to St Tropez France. It was a memorable trip at night with huge seas and winds up to 50 mph. Very rough and apparently the worst storm the crew has experienced in some time. We made…

TAKING A VACATION

lita and I leave this Saturday, "God willing and the creek don't rise" – as Hank Williams was fond of saying. We will be on the Seabourn Sojourn. This is the second of the line's new class of ships. She  was built in Italy and launched in 2010. This ship is 650 feet long and has capacity for 450 passengers. All of the rooms are ocean view and most with balconies. There are 330 crew members and 225 cabins with eight…

OUR TRIP TO ALASKA

OUR TRIP TO ALASKA

Lita and I just returned from a short trip to Alaska where I gave a talk to the Alaska Trial Lawyers and I was again struck by the raw beauty of this great state. I first saw Alaska in high school when I began working  on the the Anacortes purse seine boats. I started  out as a 9th grader working in the skiff and boats with a crew of grown men, many of whom were from Croatia and spoke limited…

THE FAMILY ALASKA CRUISE

THE FAMILY ALASKA CRUISE

Lita and I survived the family cruise. Seven of the children, their spouses, children and even grandchildren made up a group of almost forty people who sailed out of Seattle  on June 22nd on Princess  Cruise liner Star Princess. We had the vesssel all to ourselves with only some 2600 other passengers with a maximum capacity of 3100 passengers plus crew. We traveled 2,338 statute miles round trip arriving back in Seattle June 29th. I was disappointed the vessel went out Juan…
